Conference Venue

IPC15 will be hosted at the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum Frankfurt. Scientific sessions, the welcome reception (ice-breaker), and the conference dinner will all take place within the museum, offering a unique setting surrounded by world-class research collections and exhibitions.

Wednesday Activities

Frankfurt is an exciting city with plenty to explore. On Wednesday, we offer a mid-conference excursion plus several alternative options to help you experience Frankfurt beyond the scientific sessions. The full conference program will be shared after abstract submissions have closed.

Mid-conference excursion: Messel Pit Fossil Site (UNESCO)

A unique opportunity to visit the Messel Pit Fossil Site (UNESCO World Heritage) with guided tours led by expert scientists. The site is located just about 30 km south of Frankfurt, making it an ideal destination for a mid-conference excursion.

The Messel Pit Fossil Site is the world’s richest archive for understanding life during the Eocene (ca. 57–36 million years ago) and provides exceptional insights into early mammalian evolution. Deposited in a volcanic lake around 48 million years ago, the site preserves an extraordinary diversity of plants and animals, often with microscopic detail, including skin, hair, feathers, and even stomach contents—most famously early relatives of today’s horses.

Capacity: capped at 90 participants.
first-come, first-served during registration.

Alternative options in Frankfurt

Participants may visit the venues below free of charge on Wednesday. Optional guided tours are available for the Zoo, Palmengarten, and the Städel Museum (10:00 AM sharp, max. 15 participants per tour, first-come, first-served).

Characterizing the marine annelid fauna of Oman and Timor-Leste

📍 Museum der Natur Hamburg
📅 20–24 July 2026

This workshop connects taxonomic specialists with extensive annelid material from recent expeditions and museum collections to help characterize novel species diversity from highly understudied regions.

Participation is competitive and limited. Travel and accommodation support in Hamburg will be provided thanks to generous sponsorship by the Senckenberg Ocean Species Alliance (SOSA). Participants are expected to attend IPC15 in Frankfurt following the workshop.
